Not My Self

For those that may not know, I have been not feeling myself for quite awhile, about the last 5 to 10 years has been the most pronounced. I was gaining weight, about 5-10 pounds a year. I was not able to think clearly like I used to; my memory has also been affected. People's names I had just met would not register; I would forget their names almost instantly and have to ask 2 minutes later cuz I just could not figure out what they had just said.

I had never been that good with names but this was different. I felt like I was losing myself. It was very disconcerting but I didn't know what to do about it or why it was happening.

I finally got fed up with it all; low energy, fatigue, lack of stamina, brain fog, headaches, skin problems and the 50 pounds I had gained since college; the list went on and on and didn't get better.

I decided that the easiest fix was to start fixing what I ate. I stopped drinking so much soda, quit eating fast food for lunch every day and tried to eat a salad or at least more vegetables instead. That at least stopped the progressive slide of bad symptoms. I tried to go to the Dr but all I got from him was that my bloodwork was bad and I needed these drugs to correct it. I didn't go back. He gave me no help in identifying how to eat better or treat my symptoms naturally. I didn't really know how to ask at that point either though.

Then I started doing research online, trying to find if other people were having these issues and what they were doing about it. I searched medical sites first and doing little that was helpful. Then I came across what I considered the "health nut" sites at the time. These people were cutting out all convenience foods, removing juice and other sugar from their diets... I didn't think that was possible for me at the time, it seemed so difficult to remove those comfort foods I relied on daily.

But when the soda and fast food restrictions didn't seem to make much difference except to slow down what was happening to me, I decided to go Paleo and try out the health nut ideas.
