Roofing Day 2

I ended up taking the front corner of the roof apart to get the hip ready for tar paper and shingles, including some ice and water shield, which I actually think I installed wrong after talking to my roofer neighbor.

Mom and Dad showed up around 12 and Dad helped me out with cutting some plywood and getting stuff I needed in the garage while Mom watched Sam after he got dropped off by the sitter while they were out doing errands. Anywho... here are some pictures of the progress for Day 2, not feeling like doing the full description narrative, so you will have to follow along with the captions on the photos; sorry they are a little out of order.

Started by moving the drip edge up onto the roof
Then started pulling back the tar paper from the East side.

Started tearing off the corner of the North roof
and more...

and more...
and more....

carrying it to the dumpster over by the driveway
removed some of the tar paper.

Then the uploaded pics get messed up;
This one was going in for lunch, I think.
Throwing the plywood down

Using the old piece of plywood as a template.
Starting the day, putting up the ladder.

Plywood cut
throwing the plywood on the roof

Dad cutting another small piece.
Moving around insulation into the corner.

explaining to Dad what I did to the tree
to get the camera mounted with a view of
the roof
taking out another small piece I found to be
too deteriorated and needed replaced.

Moving insulation.
Dad getting the plywood ready to trace and cut

Moving insulation around while Dad cuts the plywood
Removing the staples from the old plywood.

Handing up the cut plywood piece Dad cut.
Fitting the small plywood piece.

The plywood piece fits!!!
Gone inside for lunch???

Nailing it down.
The main piece of plywood ready to go in.

Missed a couple
There are still a few staples to take out

It fits perfectly. Yay!
It needed a little encouragement to get it in the clips

Trying to figure out how the tar paper all goes.
Nailing it down.

And standing on it finally got it in the clips
Rolling out the ice and water shield
that should have gone above the tar paper.

removing the backing to stick it down.
Tar paper tacked back down on the wrong
side of the ice shield.

Putting up the rest of the starter strip on the East side.
Shingling...

not sure what this one is.
Trimming the corner.

Rolling out and tacking down the tar paper.

More tar paper rolls.
Second row rolled out.

More shingling...
Aimee helping Sam up the ladder for a look.

Sam inspecting the new roof.
Sam approved.

Making progress...
Dad sneaking up on me...
he really surprised me cuz I was so focused.

Dad just threw the small rolls of tar paper
up so I could use it to cover that small exposed section
Dad taking down the saw horses for me.

Discussing something with Dad.
Giving Dad the 3-tab shingles to cut into
hip and ridge shingles.

Extra rolls of tar paper rolled out for water protection.

Trimming the tar paper...
Cutting the water shield off the gutter

Trying to staple the vent baffles to the sheeting.
Getting the vent to put in the East Roof.

Remembering her hearing protectors.
Aimee coming up to help

Aimee coming up to help.
Getting close to done shingling on the East side

Bringing up another roll of tar paper.

cutting down the tar paper to actually fit
putting the piece of tar paper under the gable
to fill in the last piece under the flashing.

Cutting and Placing the tar paper
to fit under the gable.

Gathering the tools; getting ready to get down.
grabbing the last of the stuff from the roof.

Taking down the ladder.
Picking up.

Night time.
So I got all but the very last row under the gable done on the East roof and have tar paper rolled out over the north roof, ready to start the east corner in the morning.

I will have to remove more roofing and sheeting to do any more than just a couple rows, but it will be a start.
